Many true Italians dream of having their own restaurant. A place to bring together all that makes Italy great: authentic Italian food, relaxed dining in a family orientated atmosphere, good wine and fabulous conversations. I was no different, and couldn’t believe my luck when, after 20 years in the corporate market, I came across the restaurant of my dreams in the idyllic seaside town known as Hermanus.
We always go to Fabio - we enjoyed their pasars and occasionally their pizza was good depending on the pizza maker. We had a booking on friday 6 at 8pm . It was load shedding at the time and the power came back at 8-30. People were sitting in the restaurant by candle light and on the veranda. We were standing inside the hotel at 8-15 being ignored by the mNagetess, older lady and the young waitresses also just ignored us . We understand we couldn’t order food but we were happy to sit and order drinks and wait for the power to be restored. After five mi utes the waitres attends to us saying they don’t take clients / I said we have a reservation and she was about to take us to our table when the rude managers ds interrupted: “ I’m not taking new customers now. We are struggling with the generator to work . You can wait outside . It’s very warm here inside!” How impolite ! She could have at least offers us a table by candle light , something to drink , be hospitable . This is not the first time . The first time she was rude to us and refused to sell us take seats - we would d ordered dit is while waiting for the pizzas I. The meNtime and still tipped them . We left feeling very. Insulted. We have emailed the owner about this incident in the past and he apology. But now after the second run in with this rude lady , I am putting the review in writing - the management should undergo a course in politeness, good hospitality and how to work with guests. She must stop being rude and abrasive . Of course we will never be back due to this rude woman and her abrasive attitude . An apology will not suffice so do to not even try . You apologized once for her bad behavior- a second time is unnecessary.
A small piece of Italy in South Africa!
Greeted with a smile. Lots of cosy corners. Waiters who know their menu and give good advice. Menu was amazing! The food was simply delicious with Italian portions. Definitely worth another visit.
What was meant to be a special family meal out turned turned into a disappointment for foodies.
Your food was not great at all.
Veal was dry, small and looked like a beef olive, was it even veal? Who knows.
Served with the veal was supposed to be vegetables, but instead was served a bowl of sad, what tasted like frozen packet, creamed spinach to share.
Pastas were dry and below average.
Gnocchi was tasteless.
Servicing staff are untrained and do not have any knowledge of Italian food, an example, they have no idea of what angle hair pasta is??? Authentic Italian Cuisine, i think NOT.
Garlic pita was nice and crispy, hooray for one thing going right.
Prices are on par with a high end restaurant yet food was on par with a fast food chain outlet.
We asked for some fresh basil with our meals and we were brought a bowl of rocket and told that this is fresh basil, really?
When we asked to speak to the chef, we were barred from doing so.
After the bill was settled we were bringing up our dissatisfaction with the managers and two of them just walked away while we were talking and not interested in what we had to say.
This is definitely not a place i would recommend or return to.
Authentic Italian Cuisine, what a joke!
They of course excelled on one thing, that was bringing the bill!
They say local is lekker. This is our FAVORITE local Italian restauran! It is a gem hidden in the alley next to the beautiful church. We have been here numerous of times and the food has always been fantastic (even though sometimes there were problems) but nothing the staff can’t fix! We always feel like part of the family and all the waiters are truly friendly and always try their best for everyone to have a good experience! I do not understand why people write such unnecessary and malicious reviews instead of contacting Fabio himself via email and giving constructive feedback. But hey, more pasta for us!
Fantastic authentic Italian food, spaghetti vongole is to die for, just wish I lived in Hermanus
