Owner's description

Many true Italians dream of having their own restaurant. A place to bring together all that makes Italy great: authentic Italian food, relaxed dining in a family orientated atmosphere, good wine and fabulous conversations. I was no different, and couldn’t believe my luck when, after 20 years in the corporate market, I came across the restaurant of my dreams in the idyllic seaside town known as Hermanus.

A small piece of Italy in South Africa! Greeted with a smile. Lots of cosy corners. Waiters who know their menu and give good advice. Menu was amazing! The food was simply delicious with Italian portions. Definitely worth another visit.
What was meant to be a special family meal out turned turned into a disappointment for foodies. Your food was not great at all. Veal was dry, small and looked like a beef olive, was it even veal? Who knows. Served with the veal was supposed to be vegetables, but instead was served a bowl of sad, what tasted like frozen packet, creamed spinach to share. Pastas were dry and below average. Gnocchi was tasteless. Servicing staff are untrained and do not have any knowledge of Italian food, an example, they have no idea of what angle hair pasta is??? Authentic Italian Cuisine, i think NOT. Garlic pita was nice and crispy, hooray for one thing going right. Prices are on par with a high end restaurant yet food was on par with a fast food chain outlet. We asked for some fresh basil with our meals and we were brought a bowl of rocket and told that this is fresh basil, really? When we asked to speak to the chef, we were barred from doing so. After the bill was settled we were bringing up our dissatisfaction with the managers and two of them just walked away while we were talking and not interested in what we had to say. This is definitely not a place i would recommend or return to. Authentic Italian Cuisine, what a joke! They of course excelled on one thing, that was bringing the bill!
They say local is lekker. This is our FAVORITE local Italian restauran! It is a gem hidden in the alley next to the beautiful church. We have been here numerous of times and the food has always been fantastic (even though sometimes there were problems) but nothing the staff can’t fix! We always feel like part of the family and all the waiters are truly friendly and always try their best for everyone to have a good experience! I do not understand why people write such unnecessary and malicious reviews instead of contacting Fabio himself via email and giving constructive feedback. But hey, more pasta for us!
Fantastic authentic Italian food, spaghetti vongole is to die for, just wish I lived in Hermanus
Restaurant avarage, only thing “authentic” about it was the correct colours if the italian flag. The food was old, uninspiring, mostly frozen, you would get better food at the spur, decor stale, I would highly recommend avoiding this restaurant.
