Owner's description

Cape Town's best Tex-Mex since 1998.
The menu includes the usual: fajitas, enchiladas, quesadillas and nachos.
Platters and jugs of frozen margaritas are great for groups.

3rd time disappointed. If you dont know how to make guacamole, google is a good tool. Frozen avo pulp and its avo season. Then you charge R42 for a Jack Black IPA that cost you R18 to buy. Rock Hudson. First you dry out the patty so its completely brown with no flavour or juice left, then you add pale pan fried bacon and blue cheese crumbs, stick it under the salamander and put it on a dry bun. Straight forward disappointing for R93. Guess your operating costs are high so now you make money out of the customers you have as you don't try to serve products that will bring me back. 150g mince about R9, dry bun R3, Bacon R6, Blue cheese crumbs R5, few frozen skinny chips ar R16kg from bidvest and coleslaw - maybe R25 and then you charge R93 to stuff it up! Nice Calamari and the batter it was fried in was really good! Maybe fix your food and prices.
I love Mexican food, but what they're serving barely passes for anything edible. I used to love having drinks with friends at this place but the look of the food and the venue has really let itself go. I'd rather drive the extra 2km to the next Mexican restaurant down the road. Poor service and overpriced food.
This week I went to Fat Cactus Mowbray with a group of friends to get some margarita jugs and Mexican chow. The menu looks new and has a lot of Southern 'soul food' influences (country-fried chicken and waffles anyone) which were tempting, but I ordered the Happy Hog quesadillas with pulled pork, chilli and pineapple salsa. The food took long (like really long) to get to our table, but when it arrived it was absolutely sensational. The pork was tender and the pineapple salsa was just incredible. I would wait again. Any negative preconceptions I had about the Mowbray branch (I usually go to the one in Gardens) are gone and I highly recommend the Happy Hog quesadillas. I will be back.

Never thought I'd say this...but my favourite Mexican place just isn't what it used to be. Lousy service, average chilli poppers, I was disappointed tonight.

Overcooked burgers and overpriced beer. Only works if youve dulled your senses with many margaritas.
