Charlotte Pregnolato
This modest café offers an uncommon mix of tasty dishes from crispy vegan burgers to German sausages with sauerkraut, all made with local, organic and sustainable produce.
Food
True to their name, they mill organic spelt into flour used in wonderful bread, pastries and pasta. The printed menu lists year round go-to dishes like vegan salad of delicately cut raw vegetables in lemony dressing and juicy grass-fed beef burgers on home-made buns. Daily specials on the board reflect what's current and in season. Always a treat is locally sourced fresh fish made into light and flavoursome fish soup. Pasta specials might be vegan lasagna, spaghetti with Bolognese sauce or perhaps lamb meatballs. The dessert case is full of the Grain Mill's sweets including poppy seed cake, rich and moist baby marrow chocolate cake, and baked cheesecake.
Drinks
Not licensed but apt choices with the food include cool kombucha and freshly made juice of the day or try the wickedly yummy iced coffee.
Service
As the restaurant has gained in popularity, the staff has stepped up to the pace and offer friendly, helpful service.
Ambience
Mornings buzz with locals who stop by to see what's fresh on the shelves of the organic stall and bakery and then relax for coffee or a meal. An open patio with picnic tables is graced by quirky touches like rainbow painted fences, flowers and herbs in vintage pots, and an array of comfy cushions. More tables in cozy nooks inside.
Best For...
Relaxed meals with friends and families with kids, meeting for coffee, or even working in a quiet nook munching something delicious.
