At the Foodbarn Restaurant Noordhoek, we serve the food that our Chef Franck Dangereux is famous for… delicious and decadent ‘casual fine-dining’ in a relaxed and characterful old barn.

THE BEST! (ok: particularly if one pays due regard to the `value for money ` component). If, like us and our friends , the budget is battling with La Colombe , Test Kitchen, Green House et al prices, you will be boweled over. Their `Winter Specials` in particular simply cannot be beaten! The quality of the food , presentation of the dishes and the service is comparable to the very best - and the balance that they maintain between classy fine dining and a cozy homely atmosphere is an example to others.
Amazing food and wine pairing in a cosy setting. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. Highly recommend!
Visiting this restaurant was totally unplanned (meaning we basically plan ahead of time with regards to which restaurants are visited by us). Anyway, we had a family member visiting so decided to try out The Foodbarn on her recommendation. Booking was made via Dineplan - quick and easy. The restaurant is tastefully decorated whilst also being warm and cosy on a winter's day. We started off with some MCC for him and I. We also ordered a lovely bottle of wine for the table which our waiter recommended. Their lunch menu is short but with interesting options. For starters we had the Steak Tartare , Baby Squid and Chlorophyll. Steak Tartare was excellent with the little quail egg. Other components also went well with the dish. The Baby Squid came avocado pulp, brik pastry, ponzu, black sesame aioli and bonito flakes - another winner here. So the Chlorophyll was the one we were all curious about and it was an excellent choice. It is made up of baby spinach, watercress, mint & edamame beans, homemade humus, truffle and yuzu splash. We added shrimp fritters & parmesan shavings for a little bit extra which made the dish even better. For mains two of us had the Risotto with green asparagus and summer herbs with asiago and mustard seed mascarpone. We added shrimps to this dish. The rice was cooked absolutely perfectly. The whole dish was luscious and we agreed that we could eat that any day and everyday! He had the steak which was cooked perfectly to lovely medium rare as requested. A side portion of chips were ordered. I don't normally get excited about sides but they were pretty good chips that we all tucked into. Desserts were the Strawberry and Milk which was pretty good, Homemade Sorbets and lovely Chocolate Dessert whose name is now eluding me. The most important thing was that the desserts were good, balanced nicely with taste and texture. We are so glad to have had lunch there. The food was beyond exceptional and the service was also good. If you are heading out to that side of town, make sure that you visit this establishment.
I totally agree with Janie VanderSpuy that your critics review should be returned. The Food Barn is FANTASTIC and the winter special menu and value for money is unparalleled. French music played as I walked in the door, the fire was lit and I felt welcome. The waiters and manager were attentive without being intrusive and I could see immediately that they had been trained properly. Not only to know how to serve and treat their customers but about the food as well. I had the Pépé goats cheese with quince and pinotage syrup and it was an absolute delight. I wanted to lick the plate. Then the Provençal Escargot which was so beautifully balanced and a joy to eat. The fish with pernod buerre blanc - now that is just showing off! The lemon posset with strawberrry consomme - was light and refreshing and our food knowledge was tested with the addition of lemon verbena in the meringue. The wine served with each course was offered generously and they all paired very well with the dish. A very memorable evening with fabulously food!
Eat Out - I think you need to return to review your critic's review? We had a fantastic Saturday lunch at the Foodbarn - the Winter Special Menu offers excellent value, a good variety of choices and top quality cuisine. Our dish of the day was Fish crudo, Thai salad, lime & peanut sauce; but our party also loved the Roasted Pépé goats cheese with beetroot & cumin jam, nasturtiums, pumpkin; Escargots: with fennel fondue, puff pastry, Pernod butter & rocket; and the Ash roasted celeriac, beets and onions, cracked hazelnuts, sesame cream, balsamic syrup. Warm and attentive service in a packed restaurant. Worth the drive - we will be back! seeds and oil
