Each year, anticipation runs high around which of the country’s new restaurants will be awarded the Eat Out Woolworths Best New Restaurant Special Award at the Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards. This year, Amura took home the honour.
Located at the Mount Nelson, a Belmond Hotel, in Cape Town, Amura offers diners an immersive marine dining experience – think: plankton risotto, yellowfin tuna “steak tartare” with cured egg yolk and dried tuna powder, and pickled mussels with house-made seaweed crisps – celebrating the flavours of the Mother City and Cádiz, the ancient port city in the Andalusian region of Spain.
“To be recognised by Eat Out is an amazing achievement, especially after being open for such a short time,” says Markus Fiedler, the restaurant’s general manager. “It comes with a lot of exposure, which is amazing for the restaurant. It just means that people see us in a different light – we’re not just a restaurant in a hotel.”
Watch below as Markus and head chef Arlind Harizaj talk to us about the philosophy behind the restaurant.
