Where to enjoy brunch with a view in Cape Town

Summer is the perfect time to dine at a restaurant offering a sunny view and the festive season means we all have more time for long, lazy breakfasts and brunches. So if you’re a holidaymaker who wants to tuck into a delicious breakfast or brunch while taking in a gorgeous view, read on!

Lily’s Restaurant (Mouille Point)

Located on the Mouille Point “Golden Mile”, the views at this seaside eatery are relaxed and inviting for a decadent brunch. Dine al fresco to observe the hive of activity from the promenade or sit inside to enjoy the contemporary décor starting with the grand marble top bar area. On the menu, you can order from the lavish part of the menu, featuring Not Another French Toast, which is French toast made from brioche fingers, chocolate caramel sauce and chocolate oat crumble. For the health-conscious, choose from the lean section of the menu where you will find wholesome goodness in the breakfast salad, which has almonds, quinoa, baby spinach, kale, grilled halloumi and a soft boiled egg. Breakfast is served from 8am to 11:30am daily.

Tobago’s Restaurant, Bar and Terrace at Radisson Blu Hotel (V&A Waterfront)

Book a terrace seat boasting phenomenal Atlantic ocean sea views at this idyllic hotel restaurant in the quieter part of the V&A Waterfront. Enjoy a breakfast buffet made up of a wide selection of cold dishes, including oysters, smoked fish, charcuterie and fresh fruit – perfect for a cool start to a sweltering summer’s day. The menu also features classic warm breakfast dishes like bacon and eggs done your way. Breakfast is R325 per person and includes a complimentary glass of bubbly. Breakfast is served from 6:30am to 10:30am on weekdays and until 11am on weekends.

The Conservatory at The Cellars-Hohenort (Constantia)

The most important meal of the day is served in a light, bright and airy conservatory room with views of a lush garden framed by rolling hills in the near distance. Enjoy a breakfast selection that includes filter coffee or tea and all the trimmings that make for a satisfying breakfast. Breakfast is available daily from 07:30am to 10:30am.

Shoreditch House (Sea Point)

The iconic Sea Point Boutique Hotel is opened once more and ready to welcome guests to its glorious bougainvillaea-clad courtyard (weather permitting). Indoors, enjoy recently renovated fittings overlooking the popular promenade and accompanied by stunning sea views. For brunch, choose from pastries, avo and toast or a good old weekend fry up, and water it down with cold-pressed juices, mimosas or coffee and tea. Breakfast is served daily from 7:00am to 12pm.

Gigi Rooftop (City Bowl)

Breakfast can easily turn to a light lunch and then cocktail-filled sundowners at this vibey hotel rooftop in the heart of the Cape Town CBD. The décor is inspired by tropical themes evident in the lush blue, green and orange colour schemes that are accompanied by leafy plants dotted all throughout the deck area. Views reveal the majestic heritage buildings that dot the Cape Town city skyline. Enjoy a South African breakfast and order The Classic, which offers free-range eggs as you like them with braaied boerewors, bacon, grilled tomato, mushrooms and baked beans with your choice of toast.  Or opt for something more global such as the Georges Egg Florentine with smoked Franschhoek trout, sage hollandaise, two poached eggs and wilted baby spinach on toasted brioche. Breakfast is served dail§y from 7:00am to 9:30am.

The Granary Café at The Silo Hotel (V&A Waterfront)

Make Sunday the best day of your week when you start your day brunching at one of the city’s glitziest hotels. The café offers incredible views of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and the modern Silo District from its magnificent panelled windows. Every Sunday, guests are invited to enjoy a welcome drink, live entertainment from local artist Stuart Reece and an assortment of savoury snacks followed by an à la carte menu where guests can enjoy a three-course brunch selection including sweet treats courtesy of the hotel’s resident pâtissier. Brunch is R325 per person and runs from 11:30am to 2pm.

The Pot Luck Club (Woodstock)

Luke Dale Roberts’s take on fine-dining breakfast offers sublime tapas served over nine indulgent offerings. Not a single hen’s egg nor the usual breakfast item feature here. The menu has flavour in mind and promises to deliver on something sweet, salty and umami.  Expect oysters with nuac chom dressing; a rosti with porcini mushroom, cauliflower and a quail’s egg; and a tonka bean canelé for dessert. The panoramic glass walls reveal Table Mountain views on one end of the restaurant and views of the Cape Town harbour on the other end. At R650 per person, this brunch is perfect for celebrating moments. Make brunch extra special and pay an additional R330 to include bottomless Graham Beck MCC or Bloody Marys. Brunch is served from 11am to 2pm.

Botanicum at Morgenster (Somerset West)

Immerse yourself in nature and be surrounded by picturesque Helderberg mountain views at this Somerset wine farm restaurant. Tuck into the rich “scrambowl”, a bowl of cream cheese scrambled eggs, corn and parmesan, topped with either gypsy ham, bacon or trout. The Green Omelette is packed with green deliciousness like baby spinach, pesto, avocado, peas and spring onion and a crumbling of goat’s cheese. Breakfast is served only on weekends between 9:00am and 11am.

The Hart (Melkbosstrand)

Situated on Beach Road, The Hart offers exceptional breakfasts with breathtaking views of the water lapping against the shoreline. The breakfast menu is extensive with options ranging from one of the “traditional” breakfasts, which all come with eggs and either bacon or pork sausages plus other staples such as toast and mushrooms, to eggs Benedict, French toast, rosties and croissants. Vegetarians have their own section to choose from, with options including an egg-white crepe, Green Eggs and loaded vegan toast. Breakfast is served from 8am to 12pm and during the week, they run a breakfast special for R60 between 8 and 9am.
