Introducing taiyaki, the fish-shaped ice-cream cone taking over your Instagram feed

Watch out, world, there’s a new ice-cream craze on the loose. Tired of waffle, churro and sugar cones, one New York ice cream parlour has started serving its dessert in fish-shaped cones. Called Taiyaki NYC, the store bases its cones on a traditional Japanese treat of the same name, which normally contain sweet red-bean paste.

At Taiyaki NYC, fillings include matcha, red bean, mocha and black-sesame flavoured ice cream.

Co-owner Jimmy Chen told Cosmopolitan that his version of the Japanese treat is ‘crispier and fluffier’ than the ‘cakier’ Japanese version.

Located in Chinatown, New York, the restaurant has already drawn some lengthy queues thanks to its eminently Instagrammable treat.
