Lievland Café in Stellenbosch: where historic charm and modern elegance meet

Nestled amid the scenic beauty of Stellenbosch, a new culinary haven is about to grace the winelands restaurant scene –  Lievland Café at Lievland Vineyards.

With its doors set to swing open by the end of August, this addition is poised to offer a delightful blend of old-world charm and modern elegance.

The historic building has undergone a renovation, seamlessly blending new and old to create an ambience that perfectly complements the breathtaking mountain and vineyard vistas that envelop the site.

The kitchen reins of Lievland Café will be held by a team renowned for their expertise – Christophe Dehosse, Susan Dehosse, and Garth Bedford. The creative behind the menu is Head Chef Gareth Goliath, whose cooking journey includes a stint at the much-loved Joostenberg Bistro. Accompanying him will be Restaurant Manager Jana Bedford, also a familiar face from Joostenberg Bistro.

A cornerstone of Lievland Café’s philosophy will be about showcasing the finest local ingredients, often sourced from nearby suppliers who share a passion for exceptional quality. The result is a menu that embodies the concept of ‘contemporary café dining,’ a harmonious blend of light and hearty fare, ranging from rustic classics to more refined offerings.

While the starting menu is still being fine-tuned, tantalising glimpses of what’s to come include the Parigot – a Parisian-style baguette with ham and butter, and an open omelette featuring Joostenberg merguez sausages and rocket.

For those seeking robust flavours, dishes like the West Coast black mussel and Cape seafood casserole or the confit duck leg with orange and thyme promise to be good. And no café experience is complete without delectable desserts; some of the options include Gâteau Basque and cinnamon-poached guavas.

Lievland Café will be open from Wednesday to Sunday from 8am to 4pm.
