Retail therapy

It’s taken a while but I have finally discovered it this week: internet shopping! You’re probably wondering what's that got to do with food, but I will get there. For me, everything I do has a food connotation.

My first order was from Yuppie Chef. I collect pretty cutlery so when I saw the pale blue and white set with cream spots, I fell in love. Although they are not adult sized (the packaging says they’re for kids of 12 years and older), they will make perfect cake knives, forks and spoons.

I also made my first overseas order – this time it was coffee cups from my favourite home wear designer, UK born Cath Kidston. I chose a variety of designs, but all had roses on. I’ll probably only receive them while I am on leave – six weeks away and counting – but I look forward to copious amounts of tea drinking. And cake eating, of course!

This week there is much excitement about our awards, which is taking place on the 20th of this month. We have had wine tastings, food tastings (both superb) and some of the team eating at the 20 nominees. Apart from that, I have pretty much only eaten at my next door restaurant, Dixies. I’ve been there twice in the last week and in fact, it’s literally right next door to our house! The seafood curry is packed with big prawns, mussels and calamari and the pea soup is legendary. They make a good double gin and tonic and my birthday cake is already on order for next year – soft and moussey!

Happy eating!
Abigail
