5 festive Christmas specials in Durban

Here’s where to celebrate Christmas around the East Coast city.

The Big Easy Wine Bar & Grill (North Beach)

Christmas Eve Dinner: The three-course set menu consists of three options for starters; a selection of mains that include rolled turkey breast with smoke bacon, pistachio chicken live pate and cranberry jus; and three dessert options of rose mousse cake, chocolate fondant and cherry clafoutis for R495 per person.
Christmas Day Family Lunch: Family and friends can indulge in this festive Christmas day feast that consists bread service, starter platters, soup, and a selection of main courses that include a grilled beef fillet with parsnip creme, topped with beef biltong, gorgonzola butter, charred baby onion and shoestring for R785 per person.
Expect to also ring in the New Year in style with a five-course set menu at the New Year’s Eve Moet Party for R1250, three-course platter at the New Year’s Eve Lounge Party for R695, or a New Year’s Eve After party Package for R450 per person.

Farmer’s Daughter (Howick)

There are three Christmas lunch menu options at the Farmer’s Daughter priced at R145, R175 and R250 per person. The first main course includes slow roasted pork belly with crispy crackling served with mash and veggies, the second main contains chicken melanzane served with mash and veggies; and the last main comprise of a 450g beef sirloin served with skinny fries and vegetables.

The Grill Room at The Oyster Box (Umhlanga)

Christmas Eve Dinner and Dance: Expect to indulge in a six-course mouth-watering meal for R2200 per person. The menu includes: medallions of roasted beef fillet, wilted baby spinach, marinated Paris brown mushrooms, rosemary cherry tomatoes and champagne cream sauce.
Christmas Day Lunch: The extensive Christmas Day lunch menu is categorised with witty words that are associated with the Christmas season such as Merry Christmas which includes a roast turkey roulade, pork and sage sausage, chestnut and herb farce, bacon potato gratin, citrus and ginger sauce; and Santa Claus which includes home-smoked gammon with soya and honey glaze for R2500.

La Pizza Pazza (Kloof)

Christmas Day Lunch: Expect a selection of carvery such as herb crusted roast beef, a hot buffet that includes creamy penne Napoletana, a salad valley and a dessert buffet with options like the baked citrus cake and rich chocolate mousse for R295 per person (R185 for children under 12)

Vasco’s (Durban Central)

Start off with a delicious Christmas Eve Buffet dinner for R375 per person, followed by a scrumptious Christmas Day Buffet lunch for R695 per person, and finish off the year with a festive New Year’s Eve Buffet dinner that includes a welcome drink, DJ and bubbly for the countdown at R725 per person.
