The star of our latest edition of ‘eat this now’ is melt-in-your-mouth, flavoursome chicken breast, served in a fluffy burger bun with a side of salty chips from Afro’s Chicken on Durban’s beachfront. The view of the Indian Ocean is an added bonus.

How it’s made

Soft, freshly baked and flour-dusted bread rolls are filled with succulent and tender chicken breast that has been braaied to perfection. The chicken is then topped with either the ‘koel’ tangy lemon sauce or the ‘hot’ option with fiery chilli. If you are a heat seeker, we suggest you try yours spicy.

Each juicy bite is kicking with flavour, soothed somewhat by a slathering of mayo and a crunch of lettuce. Tucking in to this masterpiece is a messy affair, but the golden ‘tjips’ are there to catch all the extra juices. These fries are good enough to eat on their own.

The restaurant

The infamous yellow container on Durban’s beachfront has accumulated quite the cult following. Perfectly situated for surfers, promenade walkers and even hungry businessmen, this buzzing daytime spot with stunning sea views serves up the ultimate quick lunches. Guests can perch on the wooden benches under the shade or take their lunch to go and enjoy a stroll along the beachfront.

And…

If you’d prefer to forgo the bread, order the succulent chicken strips and a side of refreshing coleslaw. Not in the mood for chicken? Try their bacon-and-egg roll for the perfect breakfast in a bun.
