Legendary Cape Town prego shop to open in Sea Point with a brand new look

Frequenters of Cape Town’s southern suburbs will know all about Chippies Prego, the iconic prego joint in Rondebosch. Now it’s taken on a brand new look and name, with the team set to open up shop on Sea Point’s ever-growing Main Road strip.

The new shop, which dons fresh and stylish new branding, will go by the name Fabrica and will soon open at Sea Point’s revamped Artem Centre. The new signage shows an eye-catching design of someone about to tuck into one of their legendary prego rolls. It also reads: “Welcome to Fabrica. Your new favourite Prego Joint is opening soon. Thanks to 23 years of cult-like support in the suburbs (trading as Chippies), we decided to take a leap of faith and open up shop in your neighbourhood.”

While fans will have to wait until the opening to see what’s on the menu, the signage does hint that the new prego joint will continue to serve the dishes that made them famous. “Inspired by our love of all things Portuguese, we’ll serve our healthy flame-grilled prego, free-range chickens, wholesome salads, our famous hand-cut chips and of course, the original prego sauce.”

While the opening date is yet to be determined, we’ve got eyes on the ground to be sure we’re first in line for one of these saucy prego buns. Stay tuned to Eat Out for further developments.
