Meet the hosts for the 2023 Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards

Get ready for an unforgettable day of celebration as two incredible hosts take the stage at the Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards on 19 November at the Grand Arena at GrandWest in Cape Town.

Back for the eighth year is none other than the vivacious Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp, who will be joined by newcomer Clem Pedro. Together the pair will guide guests on an exciting journey as we applaud the Eat Out stars and Special Award winners.

Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp is a South African media personality known for her diverse talents and contributions across various entertainment spheres. With a career that spans over two decades, Elana has left an indelible mark in the fields of broadcasting, television, radio, and live performance.

Her journey began in the world of radio, where her charismatic and engaging voice quickly gained recognition. She became a household name, gracing the airwaves with her distinctive charm. Her television career further solidified her presence in the entertainment industry. Elana’s ability to connect with audiences is evident in her roles as a television presenter and actress, captivating viewers with her warmth and authenticity.

Beyond her media roles, Elana is also a seasoned performer, with a background in theatre and live entertainment. Elana is not only a respected media personality but also a dedicated mother and philanthropist, using her platform to support causes close to her heart. She has just unveiled her latest venture, the Annabelle Shiraz, in an exclusive partnership with De Grendel Wine Estate. The collaboration aims to make a meaningful impact by empowering aspiring sommeliers from underprivileged backgrounds through the establishment of the Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp & De Grendel Sommelier Bursary, in association with the South African Sommeliers Association.

Her ability to balance a thriving career with her commitment to social causes showcases her as a multifaceted and inspiring figure in South African media.

Elana says, “I am extremely honoured to be hosting the Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards once again. I am looking forward to seeing smiles, recognition and honour where it’s given – to every one of our chefs and business owners, and people who work tirelessly to serve others.”

Clem Pedro’s journey into the world of food was a dramatic revelation. Despite a background in business and a brief corporate career, Clem’s passion for cooking emerged unexpectedly as he found himself engrossed in writing and exchanging recipes while working in an office. This newfound calling led him to enrol in the Cape Town Hotel School, where his culinary talents flourished.

The 2011 Showcook Chef of the Year and a Galliova Award are among his accolades. His career path led him to Woolworths TASTE magazine, where he had the privilege of learning under the guidance of Eat Out’s chief judge and Woolworths TASTE Food Director, Abigail Donnelly. Today, Clem passionately shares his love for food with a broader audience. He presents delectable dishes on the Expresso Morning Show, which reaches audiences across South Africa, Africa, and parts of America. Additionally, Clem serves as the senior content producer for Woolworths TASTE magazine, where he celebrates culinary artisans, ingredients, and wines while sharing his own food stories.

Clem’s enthusiasm for the South African food industry is evident, as he looks forward to hosting the upcoming Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards.

“This year I get to be on stage, talking about and honouring the country’s finest culinary ambassadors – some who entered this mouth-watering industry at the same time as me, and to see them today, representing their cuisine, culture and love for food truly makes me believe South Africa has a delicious future ahead of it.”
