Owner's description

For years now the owners of Emily Moon have wanted a laid back place for our guest to sit and sip cocktails and enjoy the culinary best Emily’s has to offer. There’s been much hammering and banging in their upstairs room and in true Emily Moon style the Pizza Bar & Pub is an extraordinary place. Everyone knows the views over the valley at Emily Moon is unbeatable and that there is no place better to see the sun set. Perched above the main reception and Emily’s Restaurant, the already sublime has just been amplified in this quirky and intimate space.

The bar is beautifully designed with vintage motorboat engines decorating the walls and in the centre is a wood–fire pizza oven that produces the best artisan pizzas on the Garden Route. Signature pizzas like their Buffala mozzarella, marinated cherry tomato & spring onion or their famous Cuban styled Pulled Pork, baby onions, red peppers & rocket are as unique as the space itself. Most of their ingredients are home grown otherwise locally sourced. The Bar stocks beautiful wines of the cape and their barman makes a mean cocktail to enjoy feet up, watching the sun set over that infamous river view.

Staying in this jewel meant that I got to enjoy food at this bar set above the hill facing a river. The pizza is amazing and I love the menu board that you get to choose from. We opted for a chicken and steak pizza. The Francis peppered fillet, brown mushroom, green peppers caramelised leeks and 12 months cheddar and the morrocan chicken with red peppers, cherry tomatoes, olives, pepperdews and sesame seed. Both wonderfully presented and prepared. Best pizza ever and if you prefer more heat you can add some dictator chilli which is not too overpowering but compliments the pizza. Service is amazing and given that I don't drink alcohol, the staff went all out to give me good looking and tasty drinks that were out of this place. An amazing ice tea as well as the strawberry smoothie. The weather is amazing and December is the best time to be here. There is lots of art across the establishment that when you having your meal you are at times taken by the features either on the wall of roof. Thanks for the best pizza.
Seriously delicious pizza at Simon's Bar with friendly, helpful staff (yes, a bit on a the slow side, but it is season!), who went out of their way to accommodate by rather picky 5 year old!
Always enjoy an outing at Simon's Bar but the service is shocking. Seriously lacking management and attention. Otherwise a lovely evening and the pizzas are good.
our other favourite pizza flavors are veal ragu with local pesto, or tandoori chicken with homemade chutney and sundried tomatoes. just some of the delights at simons.
at last simon valentine has an eatery deserving of his reputation as one of the greatest hosts in the area. the owner is correct about the location and sublime views across the lazy meandering river and the bitou valley. but its the food and atmosphere that is bringing in the crowds. delicious thin crust pizzas with great toppings (my favourite is barbecued pulled lamb with rocket, or seared tuna with wasabi) cream which are a subtle tribute to ex-chef larry now operating out of oranjezicht in cape town. great fun for the family.
