Chef Bertus Basson reveals key restaurant management tips on upcoming TV show

Get ready for an exciting new season of culinary transformations when In die Sop: Restaurant-evolusie returns to TV screens for a third season.

With a line-up of restaurants spanning from the Cape to the Karoo, the West Coast, and now Gauteng, viewers are in for a treat as chef and uber-restaurateur Bertus Basson, along with décor specialist Misi Overturf, lead a team of experts in revitalising struggling restaurants.

Over 400 restaurants vied for the chance to participate in the show and just like in previous seasons, time remains the biggest challenge, with a mere 72 hours given to completely overhaul each restaurant.

According to Bertus, this requires more than just cosmetic changes – it demands a holistic approach that encompasses everything from kitchen layout to menu design.

“No aspect of the restaurant is off-limits during the transformation process,” he says. “We aim to breathe new life into each establishment, giving them the fresh start they deserve.”

Reflecting on his own experiences, Bertus emphasises the importance of organisation, systems, and self-discipline in restaurant management. Through the show he hopes to impart valuable lessons to struggling owners, laying the groundwork for growth and success.IN DIE SOP

What sets this season apart is its emphasis on genuine, heartfelt stories. Each featured restaurant is filled with tales of resilience, determination, and South African spirit. From Suzie’s Coffee Shop in Kuils River to the Durbanville Children’s Home, every location has a unique story.

IN DIE SOP

In a first for the series, In die Sop will also embark on a charity project, lending their expertise to help the Durbanville Children’s Home improve their kitchen facilities. Bertus believes that creating a nurturing food environment can positively impact the lives of young residents, fostering development and self-worth.

In die Sop: Restaurant-evolusie season 3 will air on Wednesday evenings starting 6 March 2024, at 8pm on kykNET – DStv channel 144.
