Chefs Warehouse at Tintswalo Atlantic has announced the appointment of chef Cameron Smith as its new head chef. The breathtaking oceanside restaurant was awarded a star at the Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards in 2022.
Cameron steps into this role following in the footsteps of chef Braam Beyers, who dedicated almost seven years to the Chefs Warehouse group and led the kitchen at Chefs Warehouse Tintswalo Atlantic since its opening in November 2020. Braam will be embarking on an extended ‘learning holiday’, and aims to gain further experience and broaden his culinary horizons on an international scale.
Cameron Smith has served as the senior sous chef at Chefs Warehouse Maison for the past year and has honed his skills at some of South Africa’s most esteemed fine dining establishments, mentored by renowned chefs. He embarked on his culinary journey as a commis chef at La Colombe (current Eat Out 3-star restaurant), working alongside chefs Scot Kirton and James Gaag. He then held the position of senior sous chef at La Petite Colombe in Franschhoek, working alongside chef John Norris-Rogers, before assuming the role of head chef at Protégé. While in Franschhoek, Cameron took on the responsibilities of head chef at Le Petit Manoir, where he continued to contribute to the community by running the deli and preparing food for the soup kitchen of the Franschhoek feeding scheme during the challenging times brought on by the pandemic.
In February 2022, Cameron joined chef Liam Tomlin and the Chefs Warehouse group as the senior sous chef to head chef David Schneider at Chefs Warehouse Maison in Franschhoek.
Under Cameron’s leadership, the new menu at Chefs Warehouse Tintswalo Atlantic will draw inspiration from the Cape’s wintry weather and stormy seas, building upon the foundation of Liam Tomlin’s renowned global tapas concept.
During the transition, Braam has been working closely with Cameron to ensure a seamless handover in the Chefs Warehouse Tintswalo Atlantic kitchen.
