Eat Out star restaurants across SA running delectable specials to celebrate Mother’s Day

How are you celebrating your mom this Mother’s Day? Finding the perfect gift for someone who means the world isn’t exactly the easiest feat, but quality time over a scrumptious meal sure does go a long way.

We’ve rounded up a few Eat Out star restaurants offering a special Mother’s Day lunch to kickstart the celebrations.

From complimentary bubbly to multi-course meals tailored with only the freshest locally sourced ingredients for the special occasion, check out the list below!

Acid Food & Wine Bar (Randburg, Johannesburg)
Acid Food & Wine Bar in Randburg has something special planned on Sunday, 12 May: A Mother’s Day Kitchen Takeover ft. Langelihle ‘Lady Day’ Mthembu. “Our plates are a delightful blend of textures and flavours, reminiscent of the cherished moments in the heart of every home – the kitchen, where maternal love, laughter, and stories unfold,” they say of the menu, curated by the food researcher. The lunch will run from 11am to 4pm and the ticket price of R550pp includes your food as well as a welcome drink. Bookings are essential at hello@acidthebar.com.

Cavalli Restaurant (Somerset West)
Cavalli Restaurant in Somerset West is hosting a six-course Mother’s Day meal curated by chef Lucas Carstens. The set menu will showcase the finest seasonal ingredients foraged from the estate’s own gardens at R850pp. Courses include mussels with ‘strandspinasie’ and a potato espuma, or the aged beef sirloin with salt-baked celeriac, lardo, and horseradish, with vegetarian options also on offer. Finish off your meal with a pear dessert infused with saffron, honey, and cardamom, as well as a selection of petit fours. The restaurant is open on Sunday from 12 noon to 2.30pm.

The Chefs’ Table (Umhlanga, eThekwini)
Celebrate Mother’s Day at The Chefs’ Table in Umhlanga with a seasonal, once-off four-course set menu. Lunch will be served from 11.30am to 2.30pm and you won’t want to miss confit duck dumplings and dry-aged whiskey-glazed sirloin, so bookings are essential via reception@thechefstable.co.za. You can also call 031 001 0200 to reserve your table for lunch. The lunch is R675pp, with children 12 years and under costing R325 for two courses. The cost excludes drinks and gratuity.

You can also stop by for their à la carte dinner menu, however, from 6pm.

Upper Union (City Bowl, Cape Town)
Chef Amori Burger from Upper Union in Cape Town is spoiling moms on Mother’s Day with the help of Jenna from Short & Sweet. Moms will enjoy delectable 70% dark chocolate hearts with chocolate pearls, salted caramel, hazelnut gianduja and toasted almonds on 12 May, as well as a little ‘Glitz and Glamour’ – a specially made cocktail. “And what mom doesn’t like a sneaky gin drink?” jokes Burger. Lunch itself is R650pp for the pasture menu and R550pp for the garden menu, and runs from 12noon to 4pm.

The Jordan Restaurant with Marthinus Ferreira (Stellenbosch)
Enjoy lunch with a view at The Jordan Restaurant with Marthinus Ferreira this Mother’s Day. Guests will start with a glass of bubbles before indulging in a seven-course tasting menu made with seasonal and locally sourced produce. The menu costs R1 250pp with lunch running from 1pm to 3.30pm.

From 10am to 12noon, however, they’re also offering a Mother’s Day brunch, which includes a strawberry and Greek yoghurt parfait at The Cellar Door, followed by their choice of signature eggs Benedict or wild mushrooms on toast, and finishing with a delectable tiramisu with your choice of a hot beverage. Mom will also receive a homemade treat to take home. Brunch costs R375pp.

Dusk (Stellenbosch)
Chefs Callan Austin, Darren Badenhorst and the team at Dusk in Stellenbosch are treating mom to a culinary experience with their Mother’s Day tasting menu valued at R995pp, and experience pairing at R1 395pp.

That’s right, although they’re usually closed on Sunday, they’ll open specially for Mother’s Day for you to choose between red wine braised beef cheeks and in-house nasturtium miso marinated line fish, seared venison loin with coffee kombucha glaze or aged local duck breast. Guests will finish off with petit fours, for an unforgettable dining experience with their mom.
