The impact of COVID-19 on South Africa’s restaurants has been catastrophic. As arguably one of the hardest-hit industries, restaurants have found themselves having to innovate, adapt business strategies, close their doors, reopen them, and at times close them yet again.

Eat Out stands for restaurants, and the people who love them. This special project reflects on the year we were forever changed by COVID-19. How it transformed the way South Africans dine out and dine in; showcasing home-cooked recipes from South African chefs, a look at how we learnt to help others and a forecast of what a post-pandemic restaurant and food industry will look like.
